Hello all. I apologize for my absence; it has been a good but hectic semester, but I have been keeping tabs on all of you, praying on the bad days and thanking God for all the good ones.

Not much to report on the cancer front; I got my first haircut a few weeks ago which was scary yet good. My hair is curly! It has always been long and poker straight, so now Idk what to do with it, but the people at a salon near school have been really nice in helping me to figure it all out which is good. I still miss my old hair, but my family is starting to tell me more and more often to leave it this way. -eye roll- Whatever. Oddly, it was one of my least perceptive uncles who said that I should do exactly what I want with it, so he is now the only one I listen to in regards to my hair. I think Mac’s post really explained how I feel about it; it is fine as it is, and if I had chosen to cut it this short, maybe I would love it, but it wasn’t my choice, and I am choosing to grow it back to its old length. I hope that makes sense to you as it does to me because no one else seems to understand that. Oh well.

Anyway, my Christmas was nice and relaxing, just what the doctor ordered, I think. Last year I didn’t go to church with my family as I was afraid of germs, etc., so it was good to get back to all the old traditions. Life is slowly becoming more normal, and I am welcoming this transition. I still feel tired a lot, but as my doctor said, the college hours of sleep from about 2/3 til 9am may be to blame more than residual effects from chemo. lol. I guess living life and having fun are worth sacrificing sleep.

Well, I hope all is well and that we can celebrate the New Year together and hopeful for an even better, cancer-free 2010. Merci encore pour votre presence dans ma vie. A bientot! :)

My hair came in crazy curly also, but now is growning exactly as it was before cancer. I have not cut it so I have about 4 inches of curls and2/3 inches of my old hair which was staight with a ton of body. You are braver than me, I’ve yet been able to cut it…lol. My last treatment was August 2008.

Wishing much energy and blessings throughout the New Year.

my hair came in curly also…its about 4 inches long…how do style yours and how did u cut it and how long was it before you cut it? i dont know what to do with mine

Hello all. Here I sit, back in a dorm room, ready to start a new school year. Hopefully this one will be relatively boring and uneventful as compared to my last. I have a new roommate, a few more centimeters of hair (I think and hope), and a new schedule, complete with classes on Fridays and no days off for chemo.

Thus far, I think everything is going well; I still feel around my neck for recurrences, but I have not felt a thing. I have a PET scan and appointment in late September, so I am looking forward to another plain, clean scan. (fingers crossed). I am admittedly a little worried about the flu this year, though, but I guess that I will just have to continue to use hand sanitizer and wash my hands often, not that that is something new or different. Luckily, I already had a ton of Lysol and anti-bacterial products from my low white count days.

Other than that, I am doing pretty well. Michigan won its home opener, my new roommate and I have some pretty similar tastes in books and movies, and I don’t have to go home every other weekend anymore. :) I hope and pray that all of you are doing as well as possible and think of you often. Happy Labor Day!

I moved from Battle Creek 2 and 1/2 years ago, I’m glad you are recovering and received good care there. I moved to DC and am never looking back – the medical care is so much better that it brings me a peace about it. I’m so glad to hear you can focus on the college experience – I discovered my cancer about 2 years after college, I couldn’t imagine how I would have managed both at once- I’m so glad for your clean scan! I haven’t been that fortunate yet but I can hope!

Great to hear from you. Glad you are doing so well. Going to school sounds so fun. I wish I could go back. Take some vitamin c tablets maybe to keep the swine flu away.

It’s great to hear you are doing well and back in school! It is nice when we can get some of the “normal” back into our lives. Good luck with the new school year!

Hey Laura,

Congrats on being out and about again! Isn’t it the BEST feeling to know that all that unpleasantness is behind you? I love it. :) Good luck with your classes – I know you will rock them!
All best,
Lauren
